Wedding season is in full swing and having been at a few wedding set ups, I already heard the all too familiar complaining, whining and moaning coming from various suppliers. We all do it, we all complain and moan about the brides, their mothers, their families, and how hard things are, how they don’t understand what we go through… Sounds familiar? I am guilty of that too, we all did it at some time or the other.
Next time you are on the way to a wedding, take a moment to remember how truly lucky you are to be in the wedding industry. We create weddings, we create beauty and happiness. Yes it is hard, yes we work long hours, yes we deal with emotionally charged situations and in the end of it we get to be part of a beautiful, special and memorable day. We create beautiful memories. We bring joy to people. Do your job well and you will always have a very special place in your clients’ hearts.
Count your blessings, each and every day you get to work with a client who is anxious and wants her wedding day to be perfect. She is coming to you because she trusts that having a wedding professional on her side will help her achieve her goals, so do not disappoint her with your own hangups or ego. Brides and their families are entitled to feel how they choose to feel, and it is your job as a professional to calm their nerves, reassure them even if you have done it hundreds of time before. Always remember that for this family, this may be their first wedding in decades.
Do not allow yourself to become jaded, rather be a wedding professional who guides, advises and always has the client’s best interest at heart. It is so easy to get caught up in the drama of the moment. Learn how to tune out negativity, you do not know what they are going through on a personal, professional of family levels at the time of their wedding planning process. Focus on your responsibilities, make sure you deliver exceptional service related to planning and executing wedding related services as outlined in your contractual duties and if you are positive and attentive to your client’s needs, your positive energy will have a favourable impact on your client and their wedding.
